The Tamil Nadu government banned the release of The Family Man Season 2

The Family Man 2 is reported to have hurt the sentiments of the Tamil people, and in support of the community, the Tamil Nadu (TN) government has written to the broadcasting minister requesting a ban on the OTT release of The Family Man Season 2 Trailer, which was initially not well received by the audience, now saddled with another hurdle, with the NP government opposing its launch.

Tamil Minister of Information and Broadcasting Nadu Mano Thangaraj wrote to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Union, Prakash Javadekar, condemning the series for depicting Tamils in an inappropriate way. This letter comes after Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha Vaiko raised the issue. In the letter, lawmaker Rajya Sabha has stated that the series portrays Tamils as ISI agents and terrorists with ties to Pakistan. The Liberation Tiger for Tamil Eelam (LTTE) also accused the series of portraying the Tamil community as ‘vicious’.

While the matter has turned into a national debate, The Family Man Season 2 directors Raj and DK have responded to the wild agitation spreading to ban the release of the show. The directing duo has released a statement, citing assumptions based on some snippets from the series as preconceived ideas. They say that years of hard work and effort have been put into telling a ‘sensitive, balanced and compelling story’. The director also pointed out the main cast and members involved in the series consisting of Tamil citizens and claimed that they had nothing but high love and respect for the community. On a final note, the director asked everyone to wait and watch it when it was released and promised a riveting story, like season 1.

While it’s still unclear whether Amazon’s original series starring Manoj Bajpayee, Samantha Akkineni and Priyamani – The Family Man 2 will be released on June 4, 2021, the director and creators are doing their best in convincing everyone to wait until they watch it.
