The satellite and digital release rights for SS Rajamouli’s next ambitious venture, RRR, have now been acquired by PEN Ltd. After the most successful venture in the history of Indian film Baahubali, which later gained global recognition, audiences are looking forward to its next release.
RRR featured ensemble performers including Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. The film is said to be set in British-controlled Hyderabad. It is said to be a fictional story of Indian freedom fighters Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. The film production house, DVV Films, has teased the motion poster of the main character played by Jr. NTR and Ram Charan. Ajay Devgn has also joined hands in producing this costly project.
On Wednesday, 26 May 2021, the official Twitter account for PEN INDIA LTD. tweets about acquiring digital and satellite release rights from the RRR. “We are pleased to announce an official partner for DIGITAL & SATELLITE for India’s Largest Film RRR,” the tweet said. The tweet came in with a 40-second video of the announcement. The RRR digital release rights have been taken by Zee5 for regional languages - Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. The original Telugu version will stream on Zee5. Netflix has acquired the streaming rights for the Hindi version. Digital rights for foreign languages such as English, Portuguese, Turkish, Spanish and Korean are also supported by Netflix.
The RRR satellite broadcasting rights were also announced in the teaser. While Zee held the rights to Hindi, Star acquired the film rights for all South Indian languages.
Fans are looking forward to the release of such an ambitious global project. The RRR is actually scheduled to hit theaters in early January 2021. The team then had to postpone its release date due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The film has now been given an October 2021 release date.
