What’s the Series All About?

Haikyuu Season 1

Karasuno High School Volleyball Team

The series follows the story of Shoyo Hinata, who is below average in height, but dreams of becoming a famous volleyball player after watching matches on television and admiring the hero Karason, who is also short but has excellent skills in the game. He was nicknamed “The Tiny Giant” and his team played at the national level. In high school, Hinata started learning volleyball and somehow managed to make a team with players from various games. After a crushing defeat in their first match, Hinata enters Kurasuno High School, her idol alumni.

However, while joining the volleyball club, he met Tobio Kageyama, the high school setter who beat Hinata’s team. The two don’t get along at first but settle their differences due to captain Daichi’s strict attitude. However, their troubles didn’t end there. Karasuno has not produced a great team in the five years since The Tiny Giant team graduated. The school that was once one of the powerhouses of Miyagi Prefecture is now referred to as the “Wingless Crow” due to their constant defeats. Now, with Hinata, Kageyama, and two new first years, the team is reviving their motivation and goals for the national team.

What Happened in Season 3?

Hinata and Kageyama’s Shocking Quick Attacks Before the Match

Following Shoyo Hinata’s struggles as a short volleyball player, season three featured the Miyagi Prefecture final between Shiratorizawa High School and Karasuno High School. The entire season begins revolving around an intense match between the two teams, with the players finding their new strength and rekindling their passion for the game. As a “wingless crow”, Karasuno received very little support and everyone believed that Shiratorizawa would have an easy victory. The final was a long five-set final, with Shiratorizawa easily beating Karasuno in the first set with a score of 16-25.

One of the main reasons for this defeat was Shiratorizawa’s mainstay, Ushijima. He is a left-handed speaker whose spike causes the ball to spin in the opposite direction, giving libero Nishinoya Karasuno little chance of accepting it. With his left hand nail combined with his height and strength, Ushijima is ranked as the third best nail in Japan. Not only that, in the next set, another outstanding player, Tendou Satori revealed his true skills. He is a middle blocker who is nicknamed “Beast Guess” because of his accurate blocking skills.

Tsukishima Blocks Ushijima’s Surge

Midway through the set, while Karasuno was still struggling with Ushijima’s nails, Tsukishima managed to accurately pinpoint one of Ushijima’s nails and block it with a kill-block. This surprised both the audience and the players from both teams, as there are only a few blockers in the country capable of completely stopping his spikes. This boosted team morale and they won the second set.

During the third set, Shiratorizawa’s setter Shirabu shared his backstory and admiration for Ushijima. The set ended quickly with Karasuno’s defeat. However, they won the fourth set due to Hinata’s shocking left-handed strike. Descending to the fifth and final set, the match became more intense than ever. The final set had 15 match points and Karasuno won with a spike of Hinata, bringing the score to 19-21. The season ends with Karasuno celebrating their victory and preparing for the National Spring.
