Blessed with a Bay of Bengal coastline and several scenic locations around the city, Vizag has been an inspiration to many filmmakers. Over the last few decades, the city has also seen some extraordinary artists cross to leave their signature mark on Indian Cinema. From past star music composers Ramana Gogula to the latest national sensation, Shanmukha Priya, we’ve put together a list of Vizag’s incredible playback singers.

# 1 Ramana Gogula
A music composer and playback singer by profession, Ramana Gogula is a well-known artist in the Telugu Film Industry (TFI). In 1996, her band, Misty Rhythms released Indie Pop, the studio album ‘Aye Laila’, which became a chartbuster on major music channels such as MTV and Channel.[V] in India. He then ventured into the Telugu cinema and composed songs and background music for about 25 films. His most famous hits include films such as Thammudu, Premante Idera, Badri, and Yuvaraju. Gogula’s collaboration with actor Pawan Kalyan gained immense popularity back then and is considered an icon even today.
# 2 Sricharan Pakala
Originally from Vizag, Sricharan is a composer of Indian music. He entered the film industry as a music director with the Telugu film KISS in 2013. The artist has later composed music for popular films including Kshanam, Evaru, and Krishna, and His Leela among others. He also provides vocals for several songs, Edo fight undhi from Kshanam and Sakhiya from Goodachari.
# 3 Mallikarjun
After appearing as a semifinalist in the first edition of the Padutha Theeyaga singing competition in 1996, the Vizag singer was flooded with opportunities from the South Indian film industry. He has performed more than 300 songs in films and 2000 personal devotional albums. A devoted fan of Telugu actor Chiranjeevi, Mallikarjun lends vocals to the hero’s hit films such as Indra and Tagore.
# 4 Revanth
Born and raised in Srikakulam, the Revnath family moved to Wizag while he was still in school. After bagging the Super Singer title, the South Indian film industry opened its doors to Revanth. It was ‘Manohari’ from Baahubali: The Beginning, which brought strong response from the public and national level recognition to the singer. After winning season 9 of Indian Idol, he went on to sing songs from Premam, Arjun Reddy, Geeta Govindam, and other films.
# 5 Poojan Kohli
Born in Vizag, Poojan began pursuing his singing career at the age of 15. To his credit, the musician has lent his vocals to songs from films such as Kshanam, Rangula Ratnam, and Naruda Donaruda. Her independent works include Rehnuma, Hoobahoo.
# 6 Nikhita Srivalli
Trained under renowned teachers Sri IVL Sastry and Mutnuri Jalajakshi, he rose to fame with Super Singer 8, a singing reality TV show, where he stood as the first runner-up. Known for his sharp voice and bass, he worked as a playback singer for Kannada and Telugu films. The turning point came with Thaman, Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava. He lent his vocals to the popular song – Yeda Poyinado which received overwhelming response.
# 7 Malavika
Malavika got into the film industry with the song ‘Nuvvu nenu kalisunte’ for the film Gangotri. The singer has sung songs for about 500 films. For 2006 and 2011, Malavika received the Nandi Award, under the category ‘best playback singer’.
# 8 Shanmukha Priya
Appearing since the age of five, her TV debut was marked in 2008 with ‘Little Champs’ which propelled her into the limelight. Since then there has been no word of retreat for this young singer from Vizag. With The Voice India Kids’ and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs in Hindi, Shanmukha Priya honed her skills even more. Known for her outstanding yodelling skills, she made her debut as a playback singer alongside Samjhe Kya of Ashi Hi Aashiqui in 2019. The seventeen year old Vizag is currently competing for the title of Indian Idol 12.
# 9 Sireesha Bhagavatula
A list of playback singers from Vizag is not complete without Sireesha. Called Chitra Ji from Indian Idol 12, Sireesha’s voice is just as calming as the legendary singer. Trained in Carnatic music, Sireesha has previously participated in Super Singer. During this period, he was noticed by one of the country’s top music directors, AR Rahman. Fascinated by his vocals, the musician offered the youngster to sing the songs in the film, most recently the Seemanthapoo of 99 songs.
# 10 Amala Chebolu
Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) alumni, Ms Chebolu made her singing debut with the film Maaya. Her recent outing, ‘Whattey Beauty’ from Nithiin star Bheeshma went on to become a huge hit among listeners.
