A dark Bollywood thriller from duo Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, who step into the industry together. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is a black comedy-drama originating from Dibakar Banerjee in the directing chair. He is quite well known for his nationally award winning films such as Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006) and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008). The different directorial efforts are the reason this commercial film is on many people’s radar. This time what he brought was a gender switch take with names whose meanings were explained later in the take.
Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar follows the story of Sandy and Pinky, who run away from Sandy’s boss. Moreover, after the scheme, Sandy conspired to loot the bank where he worked and fled abroad. This film does have its own uniqueness about how corporate banks fool innocent people. The ending of this film is something to behold, unlike many commercial dramas. It didn’t go well. Plot Summary of Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar
Basically, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is the story of two different characters who unite through the same motive. Satyendra “Pinky” Dahiya, played by Arjun Kapoor, is a police officer, while Sandeep “Sandy” Walia plays Parineeti Chopra who works at a bank. The way they met was through Sandy’s boss. Sandy waits for a date with the boss before accepting an invitation to another party. Only until Pinky comes out stating the boss has moved locations and sends her to escort him.
While Sandy watched Pinky, all she got was annoyance. First of all because of the way he drives and he informs the boss of each location. The rudeness leads Sandy to tell Pinky that she is pregnant and drive the car carefully until a group of friends cross them to give Pinky more fuel. What happened next was the police stopped the same group of friends and shot them after asking for his name, which came out as Pinky. This causes Pinky to drive the car to a safe place along with Sandy. So, realized that they were after Sandy and wanted to take him down too.
To get to the bottom of it, they go to a party Sandy’s friend invited only to admit they’re being tracked. So Sandy decides to go to Nepal and asks Pinky to help her. For that, he would give her one million rupees. It follows a rollercoaster ride via a train and Pinky tackles a pregnant Sandy. Then stay as a paying guest at Uncle and Aunt’s residence to make fake documents to cross the border.
Uncle’s revelations about investing in the Parivartan Bank scheme where Sandy worked brought Sandy to the core. The scheme he devised, which could dissolve the bank, was the reason his boss wanted to kill him in turn. He managed to get Uncle returned and tried to get back to business with the manager. Meanwhile, Tyagi’s boss tracks him down, and the manager tries to sexually exploit him which results in a miscarriage. Pinky comes to save her while also being aware of the situation. The question that remains is whether they will manage to escape to Nepal since Tyagi has tracked them down.
Explanation of Ending Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar
So, after seeing Sandy’s condition, Pinky tries to confront Tyagi by returning the one million rupiah that Sandy offered to him. But Tyagi refuses, which leaves Sandy with no other choice but to give up. He asks Pinky to leave, so he makes a plan to change his appearance and transform into a woman while Sandy wears a hoodie. Thus the explanation of the title of the film and the names of the characters such as a week,
Instead of confronting Tyagi, he goes to another police station to surrender. Facing Tyagi means facing death itself after all we saw at the beginning of the film. It also led to Tyagi’s arrest as the scheme came from the same bank. The more important reason Sandy decided to surrender to the police was because he was tired of fooling hundreds of innocent lives, just like the Uncle and Aunt they met in the first place. Which he relates to on an emotional level. So, realized it wasn’t worth it. After all the chaos, he receives a photo from Nepal also realizing Pinky is safe and happy too to close the film.
